SEMA Rigs: Gene’s JK
Each year the SEMA Show is flooded with amazing automobiles, lifted trucks, lower street rods, resto-mod classics and late model monsters all in the name of automotive customization. There’s something for everyone’s taste from the insane over-the-top to capable daily drivers. BDS Suspension attends this annual show out in Las Vegas and continues to make quite the statement with show vehicles scattered throughout the show grounds on display in exhibitor booths and featured vehicle spots.
Hanging out over in Rhino Rack’s booth was this super cool 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK owned by Gene Martin out of Las Vegas, NV. While it might not be the biggest at the show, this commando green JK is practical and pulls double duty as both daily driver and weekend warrior hitting trails around the Vegas landscape.
Starting out with a 2013 JK Unlimited Rubicon, Gene had a solid platform with front and rear Dana 44s, push button electric lockers, 4.10 gears, 4.0:1 RockTrac t-case and a healthy 3.6L Pentastar putting down plenty of power through the 5-speed automatic transmission. To improve the ground clearance, a BDS 3” suspension lift was installed along with BDS forged flex end control arms, BDS adjustable track bars and Fox 2.0 shocks. Tires were upgraded to 35×12.50×17 Toyo M/Ts mounted on 17×8.5 Hutchinson beadlocks. The stock brakes were upgraded to RR cross drilled and slotted rotors. Under the Rugged Ridge (RR) hood, the 3.6L was pepped up with a RR intake and throttle body spacer, Superchips 91-ctane tune, routed out with a Magnaflow exhaust that dumps under the body. In place of the stock muffler the Gene built a custom rear skidplate that houses a Viair ADA compressor, tank and Horn Blasters air horns. For body protection, Gene went with RR stubby front bumper, rock sliders, rear bumper and tube doors. RR hurricane flat fenders provide extra clearance for when this Jeep is flexed out. In the recovery category, a RR 10.5K winch was installed up front along with RR recovery tool kit and rear mounted jack. A Genesis Offroad dual battery tray and Odyssey batteries provide juice to the HIDProjectors.com color matched projection headlights, Wurton front mounted LED cubes, bottom mounted pods, and roof mounted 50” LED lightbar. A rhino rack was mounted to the factory hardtop extra storage on Gene’s offroad adventures.
